Canadian Hana Gartner said of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir when they performed in Roy Thomson Hall in 2007, “The sound these men and women create is not just music to the ears. You also hear it with your heart.”
More than 5,200 people heard the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square “with their hearts” during two concerts at Roy Thomson Hall on Monday, June 27, 2011, at the close of their 2011 tour.
Thomas Rosica, CEO of Canada’s Salt and Light Catholic Media Foundation and Television Network, guest conducted during the afternoon concert.
Singer Daniele Walker of Vancouver, British Columbia, grew up in Paris, France, listening to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and saw the choir perform in Salt Lake City several years ago.
“I was taken by the choir—by the quality of the performance,” she said of her experience listening to the choir. “I’m so, so thrilled to be here at the last performance of [the] tour. I cannot explain the joy of being here and listening to the choir.”
Livia Thoeny from Toronto also attended the performance at Roy Thomson Hall and said the spirituals and “God Be with You Till We Meet Again” were her favorites.
“Very, very impressive and beautiful,” she said.
Prior to the evening concert, Thomas S. Monson, President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and self-appointed choir advisor, spoke at the V.I.P. reception.
Describing his family’s tradition of attending the Music and the Spoken Word broadcast on many Sundays, he expressed his admiration and appreciation for the choir and orchestra.

Thanking those in attendance for coming, he said, “I do not hesitate to profess that there is no finer choir in the entire world, and in combination with the Orchestra at Temple Square, their music is magnificent. Perhaps you’ve listened to their albums or have seen them on television. Until you’ve experienced a live concert, however, you cannot appreciate all that they have to offer. . . . If you have not before experienced one of their live concerts, prepare for an unforgettable experience.”
Jerry Gray, a member of the performing folk group Travellers and writer of the Canadian version of “This Land Is Your Land,” guest conducted during the evening concert.
