New 2016 Mission Presidents Called to India, Jamaica, Nigeria

Eight new mission presidents and their wives have been called by the First Presidency. They will begin their service in July.

Brazil Piracicaba Mission

Howard Kent Bangerter, 59, and Lissa Harrison Bangerter, six children, Canyon View Ward, Highland Utah East Stake: Brazil Piracicaba Mission, succeeding President Kennedy F. Canuto and Sister Regia Canuto. Brother Bangerter serves as a Primary teacher and Scout leader and is a former stake president, bishop, high councilor, and missionary in the Portugal Lisbon Mission. Senior product manager, Corporation of the Presiding Bishop. Born in Salt Lake City to William Grant Bangerter and Geraldine Hamblin Bangerter.

Sister Bangerter is a former ward Relief Society president, ward and stake Primary music and Cub Scout leader, and missionary in the Portugal Lisbon Mission. Born in Castro Valley, California, to Daniel Bird Harrison and Marina Mello Harrison.

Michigan Detroit Mission

Larry Thomas Cleveland, 57, and Jennifer Anne Meredith Cleveland, four children, Woodward Park Ward, Fresno California Stake: Michigan Detroit Mission, succeeding President Nolan D. Gerber and Sister Beverly J. Gerber. Brother Cleveland is a former stake president, bishop, high councilor, seminary teacher, ward Young Men president, and missionary in the South Carolina Columbia Mission. Certified public accountant, Cleveland Farley LLP. Born in Torrance, California, to Robert Cornell Cleveland and Betty Jane Cutner Cleveland.

Sister Cleveland is a former ward Relief Society, Young Women, and Primary president; ward activity committee chairman; nursery leader; and Young Women adviser. Born in Sacramento, California, to Tom Meredith and Joan Alberta Shipp Hinrichs.

Guatemala Retalhuleu Mission

Matthew Mortensen Goodman, 61, and Kay Arlene Norvell Goodman, five children, Red Hill Ward, Orange California Stake: Guatemala Retalhuleu Mission, succeeding President Johnny F. Ruiz and Sister Ileana R. Ruiz. Brother Goodman is a former stake president, stake presidency counselor, bishop, elders quorum president, Scoutmaster, and missionary in the Australia Melbourne Mission. Dermatologist, Southern California Dermatology. Born in Tucson, Arizona, to Vance Herbert Goodman and Ethel May Mortensen Goodman.

Sister Goodman is a former ward Relief Society and Primary president, ward Young Women presidency counselor, patriarch scribe, temple worker, and seminary teacher. Born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Norman Lawrence Norvell and Delores Bertha Dye Norvell.

India Bengaluru Mission

Fred Martin Mortensen, 62, and Shauna Allen Mortensen, four children, Tempe Ward, Tempe Arizona Stake: India Bengaluru Mission, succeeding President David M. Berrett and Sister Terry Lee Berrett. Brother Mortensen is a former stake presidency counselor, bishop, high councilor, ward Young Men president, and missionary in the Taiwan Taipei Mission. President and chief executive officer, Mortensen Construction Company, Inc. Born in Safford, Arizona, to Gale Kent Mortensen and Nell Bushman Mortensen.

Sister Mortensen serves as a ward music chairman and is a former stake Relief Society and Young Women president, ward Young Women president, Relief Society teacher, and stake Young Women camp director. Born in Tucson, Arizona, to Merle Maeser Allen Jr. and Carol Beckstrand Allen.

Jamaica Kingston Mission

Scott Coleman Pearson, 64, and Linda Lee Birkhead Pearson, two children, Maple Highlands Ward, Spanish Fork Utah Maple Mountain Stake: Jamaica Kingston Mission, succeeding President Kevin G. Brown and Sister Nadine Brown. Brother and Sister Pearson recently served as senior missionaries in the Jamaica Kingston Mission. Brother Pearson serves as a ward missionary and is a former mission presidency counselor, bishopric counselor, high councilor, branch presidency counselor, and high priests group leader. Sister Pearson serves as a ward missionary and is a former ward Relief Society and Primary presidency counselor, emergency preparedness specialist, and ward Young Women camp director. Born in Washington, D.C., to James Birkhead and Evelyn Birkhead.

Alabama Birmingham Mission

Stanford C. Sainsbury, 60, and Melanee Anderson Sainsbury, seven children, West Mountain 4th Ward, Payson Utah West Stake: Alabama Birmingham Mission, succeeding President Richard D. Hanks and Sister Elizabeth Hanks. Brother Sainsbury is a former stake president, high councilor, bishop, ward mission leader, ward Young Men presidency counselor, and missionary in the Sweden Stockholm Mission. Retired, Orem City. Born in Salt Lake City to Charles Bailey Sainsbury and Beth Bishop Jensen.

Sister Sainsbury is a former stake and ward Relief Society presidency counselor, ward Young Women presidency counselor, Young Women adviser, and missionary in the Costa Rica Mission. Born in Alamosa, Colorado, to Carleton Q Anderson and Mary Elizabeth Moody Anderson.

Nigeria Lagos Mission

Cornelius Olanrewaju Tay, 65, and Caroline Olabisi Tay, three children, Dalhousie Ward, Winnipeg Manitoba Stake: Nigeria Lagos Mission, succeeding President Richard K. Ahadjie and Sister Emelia Ahadjie. Brother Tay is a former stake president, stake presidency counselor, high councilor, high priests group leader, ward mission leader, and national director of public affairs. Retired, CT & Associates Limited. Born in Lagos, Nigeria, to Vincent Charles Tay and Paulina Masavi Tay.

Sister Tay is a former stake Young Women president, ward Primary president, ward missionary, Employment Resource Center manager, and Relief Society compassionate service leader. Born in Lagos, Nigeria, to Charles Olayeni Oshodi and Josephine Abeke Oshodi.

Virginia Chesapeake Mission

Randall Floyd Weed, 65, and Brenda May Weed, six children, River Mountain Ward, Henderson Nevada Lake Mead Stake: Virginia Chesapeake Mission, succeeding President Alan J. Baker and Sister Mary Kay Baker. Brother Weed serves as a Sunday School teacher and is a former stake president, bishop, high councilor, temple ordinance worker, seminary and institute teacher, and missionary in the Austria Mission. Retired chief deputy, district attorney’s office. Born in Pacific Grove, California, to Floyd Barg Weed and Deaun Moulton Weed.

Sister Weed is a former stake Relief Society and Young Women presidency counselor, seminary and institute teacher, temple ordinance worker, assistant stake camp director, and ward Primary music leader. Born in Denver, Colorado, to Chester Harris May and Melba Clark May.
