  • 28 January 2011

The First Presidency announced a 50-acre plot in Carmel, Indiana, USA, as the site of the Indianapolis Indiana Temple this week.

President Thomas S. Monson announced the temple during October 2010 general conference. It will be the first temple in Indiana.

The Saints in Indianapolis’ three stakes currently travel more than 100 miles (160 km) to the Louisville Kentucky Temple. The Indianapolis Indiana Temple will cut that journey to about 20 miles (32 km).

There are 134 operating temples in the world, with 23 more announced or under construction.
