India hotel plan wins 2008 BYU Social Venture Competition

A group of Brigham Young University students is one step closer to building self-sustainable schools in India after winning the 2008 Social Venture Competition, which includes a $10,000 award to fund their goal.

Established in 2004 by the BYU Center for Economic Self-Reliance, the Social Venture Competition is designed for students who, through a business venture, are combating social issues in areas such as healthcare, poverty and education.

PCC opens new home for BYUH's Iosepa

The new Halau Wa'a O Iosepa in the PCC's Hawaiian Village It was a classic Laie event on June 25 when a small party of Polynesian Cultural Center board of director members, Presidents' Leadership Council donors and special guests, community kupuna and employees gathered for the private dedication of Halau Wa'a O Iosepa - the new 85-foot-long, 43-feet-wide and almost 40-feet-high home for BYU-Hawaii's iconic voyaging canoe, the 57-foot traditional twin-hulled Iosepa:

Three Stories, Three Sets of Blessings

It was 6:45 p.m. on August 17, 2007, when a devastating 7.9 earthquake hit the coastal towns south of Lima, Peru. Hope crumbled as adobe homes tumbled to the ground. Over 500 people lost their lives, five of them members of the Church.

The following are stories of three families who feel that miracles played a part in sparing their lives during that catastrophe. These are stories about three families in San Clemente and La Villa, Peru, who experienced sacrifice, faith, courage, love, and indeed, many miracles.

Ground Broken for Brazil’s Sixth Temple

An artist’s rendering of the new Manaus, Brazil, temple. Leaders from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints broke ground on Friday at the site of what will be the faith’s sixth temple in the country. The ceremony was attended by community leaders, media representatives and Church members.

Speakers at BYU-H Graduation. Elder Dallin H. Oaks of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles admonished the 235 new BYU-Hawaii graduate candidates gathered in front of faculty, family and friends in the Cannon Activities Center this morning, "Don't be a slave."
