Liahona, December 2009

The Light of Christ, given to all, is a precious gift from our Heavenly Father. At Christmastime, President Henry B. Eyring’s message, “Home for Christmas,” reminds us of this light as we feel the joy of the Savior’s birth and the joy we can find in giving to others.

Bishop H. David Burton explains in “The Blessing of Work” that honest and productive work is a commandment that brings contentment and a sense of self-worth.

For Youth: Elizabeth Quigley tells of her struggles after being diagnosed with leukemia. She shares how she came to recognize her blessings instead of always asking, “Why me?”

For Children: See the wonderful lights and sights on Temple Square at Christmastime in “A Temple Square Christmas.”

Call for Articles

The Liahona is planning to publish a collection of stories of meaningful youth activities. We feel that many members who look back on their experience in Mutual remember one activity—small or large—that was particularly testimony building or personally strengthening in a significant way.

Would you be willing to share such an account from your own teenage experience? We are particularly interested in what the activity entailed, what made it meaningful, and what you learned that has remained with you.

Please send your account of 100 to 300 words to liahona@ldschurch.org, with “Mutual” in the subject line. We also need your full name, ward, and stake (or branch and district) as well as your written permission (e-mail is fine) for Church magazines to print your submission. Submissions may be edited for length or clarity.

Thanks for participating.

Do You Have a Story to Tell?

The Liahona welcomes submissions that show the gospel of Jesus Christ at work in your life. Check out this list for more information about what and how to contribute.
