Tsunami Relief
When disasters strike, the Church responds immediately with food and emergency supplies. Once the immediate needs are addressed, the Church looks for opportunities to match its resources and capabilities with the most pressing long-term needs of the people.
Projects that are undertaken focus on helping people to become self-reliant, coordinating efforts with local government officials, and providing solutions that can be sustained.
Following the devastating tsunamis that struck Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and neighboring countries, the Church responded with millions of dollars of longer-term help, including:
- Livelihood restoration for fishermen, farmers, weavers, and home-based industries.
- Health and child care with operating room reconstruction, medical equipment, trauma counseling training, and other support.
- Reconstruction of homes, medical facilities, schools, mosques, and community centers.
