Organizational Structure

The Young Women auxiliary is for young women ages 12 through 17. If there are enough young women in a ward, there can be three separate classes:

  • Beehive (ages 12 and 13)
  • Mia Maid (ages 14 and 15)
  • Laurel (ages 16 and 17)

Under the direction of the priesthood, a ward Young Women presidency is called. They direct the ward Young Women organization, ensuring that it is organized and functioning properly. They help each young woman grow spiritually. They also strengthen her in her family. Additional information on the responsibilities of a Young Women presidency can be found in the Church Handbook of Instructions, Book 2: Priesthood and Auxiliary Leaders, available through local priesthood leaders.

Forming a Young Women Auxiliary in a New Ward or Branch

When a bishop or branch president determines that enough young women ages 12 through 17 live in the unit he may organize the Young Women auxiliary. They meet separately from the Relief Society in Sunday meetings and may gather for activities.

In a small ward or branch, leadership for the Young Women organization could consist of only a Young Women president. Counselors, a secretary, advisers, and other leaders may be called when the need arises and qualified sisters are available.

If a Young Women auxiliary is formed and the number of young women increases, the bishop or branch president may call additional leaders and separate the girls into age-groups.
