Relief Society instruction on the second and third Sundays is a study of the doctrines of the gospel as taught by latter-day Presidents of the Church. The curriculum for 2008 is Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Joseph Smith manual. Each sister should receive a copy of the book, which becomes part of her permanent gospel study library, and should be encouraged to read the designated chapter prior to class.
Where the Teachings of Presidents of the Church books are not yet available or where special needs exist, leaders should use part A or part B of The Latter-day Saint Woman, depending upon the year.
Teachers are to focus on the content of the book and help members apply these teachings in their lives. They may draw from the questions at the end of each chapter to encourage members to read the chapters in preparation for Sunday meetings and to bring the book to class. Teachers should honor the sisters’ preparation by teaching from President Kimball's words.
Lessons on second and third Sundays usually are taught by Relief Society teachers, but they may be taught by a member of the Relief Society presidency. The lessons should be taught in the order presented in the book.
Leaders and teachers are encouraged to study and prepare well to ensure that gospel doctrines and principles are taught and discussed, and instruction time is used effectively. Leaders should inform sisters of chapters they should study to prepare for upcoming lessons and encourage them to apply the principles discussed in their daily lives.
