Temporal welfare includes caring for the poor and needy and becoming self-reliant. The Lord has commanded that we "must visit the poor and the needy and administer to their relief" (D&C 44:6). He has also commanded that we use the blessings we have been givenour talents, abilities, and material goodsto become self-reliant individually and as families.
Melchizedek Priesthood quorum and group leaders have an important role in helping members fulfill their temporal welfare responsibilities. Quorum and group leaders should set an example in temporal welfare by caring for the poor and needy and becoming self-reliant. They should also encourage members in these efforts, and ensure that the doctrines, principles, and blessings relating to welfare are taught regularly in priesthood meeting and home teaching visits.
The material available under Learn More below can help priesthood leaders better understand principles relating to temporal welfare. Additional welfare information and resources are available at www.providentliving.org.
