The stake president assigns a high councilor to advise, encourage, and assist the stake Sunday School presidency. If you are a high council adviser to a stake Sunday School presidency, you may find the following suggestions useful.
1. Establish a regular time to meet with the stake Sunday School presidency. The high council adviser to the Sunday School should be in attendance when the assigned member in the stake presidency meets with the stake Sunday School presidency. When invited, the high council adviser to the Sunday School may also want to attend stake Sunday School presidency meetings. (See Church Handbook of Instructions, Book 2: Priesthood and Auxiliary Leaders [1998], 241.)
2. Report on the work of the stake Sunday School in stake priesthood executive committee meetings (see Church Handbook of Instructions, Book 2, 241). In addition to keeping the stake presidency and other members of the priesthood executive council apprised of the needs and recommendations of the stake Sunday School presidency, the high council adviser can also take the opportunity in these meetings to remind the participants of the importance of effective gospel teaching. Consider sharing a brief quotation from scripture or counsel from the living prophets on the importance of learning and teaching the gospel in the Church and at home.
