The Relief Society music director is called by the bishopric and supervised by the Relief Society counselor assigned to education. The music director prepares music for Relief Society meetings. She selects hymns and other music that correlate with Relief Society lessons. She reviews and rehearses this music with the pianist, and she conducts the music.
She presents a five-minute music period during Relief Society meetings. Suggested ideas for the music period include learning hymns, discussing the use of music in the home, learning musical skills, listening to good music and discussing its qualities, and singing in parts.
She reviews all music with the counselor assigned to education. Most music should be from the hymnbook, though occasionally other sacred music that is appropriate for religious services may be used.
She attends ward Relief Society leadership meetings.
As requested, she organizes Relief Society choirs for special occasions.
If necessary, she may ask the ward music chairman for assistance.
