Sharing Time

Sharing time allows children of combined age-groups to participate in activities and sing songs that teach gospel principles. Members of the Primary presidency plan and present sharing time. This is an opportunity for them to interact with the children and teach them gospel principles. Members of the presidency should focus on a principle suggested in the current outline for sharing time and the children's sacrament meeting presentation, which suggests themes and songs to be taught during the year. Presidency members also should bear testimony of the principle being taught.

One sharing time each month should be a class presentation. A member of the Primary presidency oversees each presentation and can be a resource to teachers as they prepare these presentations.

Sharing time should incorporate music (see "Music in Primary"). The presidency plans with the music leader to include songs that will support the gospel principle being taught and actively involve the children.

Sharing time should include a variety of teaching methods that involve the children. It is often effective to include physical activities that allow standing and movement. Sharing time also should fit the children's ages.

All Primary children may meet together for sharing time, or the older and younger children may meet in two groups. Having two groups makes it easier to adapt sharing time to the children's ages and to encourage participation. Sharing time for older children is held during the same time as Aaronic Priesthood and Young Women classes. When children turn 12, they attend their Aaronic Priesthood quorum meeting or Young Women class rather than sharing time.

Church-produced materials that are appropriate for children may be used for sharing time. These include the outline for sharing time and the children's sacrament meeting presentation, the Friend magazine, the children's pages in the Liahona magazine, the Children's Songbook, and other items listed in the annual Church Materials Catalog.
