Please be aware of the following important considerations as you plan and carry out camp.
Include Parents
Include parents of young women in camp by:
- Sharing information with them.
- Receiving written permission and medical information from them.
- Inviting them to support or help.
Provide Safety
To ensure the safety of young women and adults, do the following:
- Review and abide by "Safety Guidelines for Activities," a letter from the Church Priesthood Department regarding youth activities.
- Follow Church policies and standards for activities, including those regarding travel, insurance, chaperoning, and overnight activities (see Church Handbook of Instructions, Book 2: Priesthood and Auxiliary Leaders [1998], 276–80; Young Women Camp Manual [2002], 90).
- Obey laws.
- Follow medical and safety practices (see Young Women Camp Manual, 91).
- Know where to get help in an emergency.
- Review and abide by "Safeguardig Children and Youth," a First Presidency letter dated February 23, 2006.
Budget
Follow Church guidelines for finances, including the specific guidelines that have been given for Young Women camp (see Young Women Camp Manual, 90; Church Handbook of Instructions, Book 2, 226, 272, 324).
A recent increase in the local unit budget allowance is intended to fund activities more effectively and to relieve the financial burden on families (see Presiding Bishopric letter, "Guidelines for Using the Local Unit Budget Allowance Increase," Apr. 6, 2004).
Decorating for camp can be expensive. It should not be a production, but should be kept to a minimum. Mother Nature is the best decorator! |
