Idea 1: Standards of Behavior Are Based on Eternal Truths

Savior

Our standards of behavior are based on eternal truths. Some of these eternal truths include:

  • God is our Father.
  • We are His children.
  • We lived with Him before coming to this earth.
  • We are living His plan.
  • We have eternal identities and divine missions.
  • Families can be linked eternally through temple covenants.

Activity

  • Turn to "Dress and Appearance," pages 14–16 in For the Strength of Youth.
    • Identify the gospel truths that are the basis for this standard. Look at the scripture listed at the top of the page as well as the first sentence in the first paragraph (page 14).
    • Think about and discuss: What are the reasons for dressing appropriately? What are the rules that guide correct dress and appearance?
  • Turn to “A Proclamation on the Family,” the last page in For the Strength of Youth. Read it and mark your copy.  What additional eternal truths does it talk about that give you insight into why we live the standards?

Do this same activity with "Language" (pages 22–23), "Music and Dancing" (pages 20–21), "Entertainment and the Media" (pages 17–19), and other For the Strength of Youth topics.
