Idea 5: Grafting In Good Things

Campfire

Encourage youth to prune out bad activities and graft in things that will bear good fruit (see Jacob 5:65–66, 68).

Activity

  1. In "Entertainment and the Media," pages 17–19 of For the Strength of Youth, identify activities or entertainment that should be pruned out.
  2. Brainstorm together and identify activities that could be grafted in.

"There is so much of wonderful reading available. . . . There is music to be learned and enjoyed. There is just having a good time together—in dancing, in hiking, in cycling, or in other ways—boys and girls together enjoying one another's company in a wholesome way" (Gordon B. Hinckley, "Gambling," Ensign, May 2005, 61; see also Moroni 7:15–16).
