Gospel Doctrine teachers: The lessons in the manual contain more information than you will probably be able to teach in one class period. Seek the Spirit of the Lord in selecting the scripture accounts, questions, and other lesson materials that best meet the needs of class members.
Basic Resources
- To read the lesson or to see the class member study guide section for this week, click on the pictures above. When you are reading the lesson or the class member guide online, you can open and read the scriptures with just one click. Try it.
- You can read the assigned scriptures for this week online: Isaiah 61:1–3; JST, Luke 3:4–11; John 1:1–14; 20:31.
- Would you like to listen to an audio recording of the scriptures in this week's lesson? Try listening to or downloading John 1 (MP3 format), which is in this week's reading. For more New Testament audio, click here.
- The official scripture study aids often have helpful information you can use in your lessons. For example, for this week's lesson, the manual suggests you refer class members to the Bible Dictionary definition of "Light of Christ" (see lesson manual, page 3).
Art
The lesson manual lists several pictures from the Gospel Art Picture Kit that you can use during your lesson (see lesson manual, page 1). These pictures are available online or in your meetinghouse library. To see these pictures online, click on the picture titles in the list below.
For suggestions on using pictures in your class, read "Pictures" and "Visuals" in Teaching, No Greater Call, pages 176, 182–83.
Videos
The lesson manual suggests two video segments you could use as part of your lesson (see lesson manual, page 4). Click the video titles below to see listings for these videos in the online Church Distribution Services catalog.
For information on using videos in your class, read "Audiovisual Materials" in Teaching, No Greater Call, page 160.
Suggestion for Teaching
Before you prepare lesson 1, read or reread "Helps for the Teacher" on pages v–ix of the lesson manual. As you read, consider: How can you invite the Spirit into your class? What could you do to encourage class discussion?
