Gospel Doctrine teachers: The lessons in the manual contain more information than you will probably be able to teach in one class period. Seek the Spirit of the Lord in selecting the scripture accounts, questions, and other lesson materials that best meet the needs of class members.
Basic Resources
- To read the lesson or to see the class member study guide section for this week, click on the pictures above.
- You can read the assigned scriptures for this week online: Luke 1; Matthew 1.
- Would you like to listen to an audio recording of the scriptures in this week's lesson? Try listening to or downloading Luke 1 (MP3 format), which is in this week's reading. For more New Testament audio, click here.
- The official scripture study aids often have helpful information you can use in your lessons. For example, the lesson for this week quotes from the Bible Dictionary entry for "John the Baptist" (see lesson manual, page 6).
Art
The lesson manual lists pictures from the Gospel Art Picture Kit that you can use during your lesson (see lesson manual, page 5). These pictures are available online or in your meetinghouse library. To see these pictures online, click on the picture titles in the list below.
For suggestions on using pictures in your class, read "Pictures" and "Visuals" in Teaching, No Greater Call, pages 176, 182–83.
Suggestion for Teaching
The lesson manual provides the following suggestion for teaching: "When a person teaches by the power of the Holy Ghost, 'the power of the Holy Ghost carrieth it unto the hearts of the children of men' (2 Nephi 33:1). Feeling the influence of the Spirit strengthens class members' testimonies, their love for the Lord and for each other, and their commitment to righteous living. Prayerfully consider what you can do to invite the Spirit during each lesson" (lesson manual, page 5). For more information on inviting the Spirit into your classroom, read "Teaching by the Spirit" on pages v–vi of the lesson manual and "Inviting the Spirit as You Teach" in Teaching, No Greater Call, pages 45–46.
