Gospel Doctrine teachers: The lessons in the manual contain more information than you will probably be able to teach in one class period. Seek the Spirit of the Lord in selecting the scripture accounts, questions, and other lesson materials that best meet the needs of class members.
Basic Resources
- To read the lesson or to see the class member study guide section for this week, click on the pictures above.
- You can read the assigned scriptures for this week online: Matthew 6–7.
- The teacher's manual also includes the following scripture passages as additional reading: Luke 6:37–49; 11:1–13, 34–36; 12:22–34; 16:13; 3 Nephi 13–14.
- Would you like to listen to an audio recording of the scriptures in this week's lesson? Try listening to or downloading Matthew 6 (MP3 format), which is in this week's reading. For more New Testament audio, click here.
Art
The lesson manual lists a picture from the Gospel Art Picture Kit that you can use during your lesson (see lesson manual, page 35). This picture is available online or in your meetinghouse library. To see this picture online, click on the picture title in the list below.
For suggestions on using pictures in your class, read "Pictures" and "Visuals" in Teaching, No Greater Call, pages 176, 182–83.
Music
The lesson for this week suggests singing "The Wise Man and the Foolish Man" (Children's Songbook, 281) with class members (see lesson manual, page 38). For suggestions on using music in your class, read "Music" in Teaching, No Greater Call, pages 172–74.
Videos
As an additional teaching idea, the lesson manual suggests a video segment you could use as part of your lesson (see lesson manual, page 39). Click the video title below to see a listing for this video in the online Church Distribution Services catalog.
For information on using videos in your class, read "Audiovisual Materials" in Teaching, No Greater Call, page 160.
Suggestion for Teaching
The lesson for this week provides this suggestion for teaching: "Stories can illustrate gospel principles and keep class members' attention as few other teaching methods can. Jesus often used stories to teach important lessons or clarify abstract ideas. As you prepare your lessons, consider how you could use stories to help class members understand gospel principles. When you tell a story, be sure class members understand whether it is a true account or a fictional story you have created to make a point (see Teaching, No Greater Call [36123], pages 179–182)" (lesson manual, page 35).
