Gospel Doctrine teachers: The lessons in the manual contain more information than you will probably be able to teach in one class period. Seek the Spirit of the Lord in selecting the scripture accounts, questions, and other lesson materials that best meet the needs of class members.
Basic Resources
- To read the lesson or to see the class member study guide section for this week, click on the pictures above.
- You can read the assigned scriptures for this week online: Matthew 26:47–27:66; Mark 14:43–15:39; Luke 22:47–23:56; John 18–19.
- The teacher's manual also includes the following scripture passages as additional reading: Isaiah 53; Mark 15:39–47; John 3:16; 15:13; 1 Nephi 11:32–33; 19:7–9; 2 Nephi 9:21–22.
- Would you like to listen to an audio recording of the scriptures in this week's lesson? Try listening to or downloading John 18 (MP3 format), which is in this week's reading. For more New Testament audio, click here.
- The official scripture study aids often have helpful information you can use in your lessons. For example, the lesson for this week references the entry for "Crucifixion" in the Bible Dictionary (see lesson manual, page 107). The lesson also suggests using a map of Jerusalem in Jesus's time, which is available in the maps section of Latter-day Saint editions of the Bible (map 12 for editions printed in 1999 or later; map 17 in printings before 1999).
Art
The lesson manual suggests pictures from the Gospel Art Picture Kit that you can use during your lesson (see lesson manual, page 107). The pictures are available online or in your meetinghouse library. To see the pictures online, click on the picture titles in the list below.
- The Betrayal of Jesus, Gospel Art Picture Kit, no. 228
- Peter's Denial, Gospel Art Picture Kit, no. 229 (not available online)
- The Crucifixion, Gospel Art Picture Kit, no. 230 (this picture is shown to the right)
For suggestions on using pictures in your class, read "Pictures" and "Visuals" in Teaching, No Greater Call, pages 176, 182–83.
Videos
The lesson manual suggests a video segment you could use as part of your lesson (see lesson manual, page 107). Click the video title below to see the listing for this video in the online Church Distribution Services catalog.
For information on using videos in your class, read "Audiovisual Materials" in Teaching, No Greater Call, page 160.
Suggestion for Teaching
The lesson for this week provides this suggestion for teaching: "When teachers and class members are reverent, they invite the Spirit to be present. Class members should be 'free to discuss, free to speak, free to participate in classwork, but no member of the class has the right to distract another student by jostling or making light and frivolous remarks' (David O. McKay, Gospel Ideals [1954], 224). Set an example of reverence toward God and respect for each class member" (lesson manual, page 107).
