2007 Young Men Open House Workshops

Theme: "Training Aaronic Priesthood Quorum Presidents to Preside"

The duty of an Aaronic Priesthood quorum president is to preside, sit in council with, teach, and edify the members of his quorum (see D&C 107:85–88), while the duty of the bishopric and the adult advisers of youth is to teach them their duty (see D&C 107:99–100). There are several meetings or activities where instruction may be given and where Aaronic Priesthood quorum presidents may test their skills in presiding, sitting in council with, teaching, and edifying. These workshops focused on three such meetings: (1) the Aaronic Priesthood committee meeting; (2) the Aaronic Priesthood quorum presidency meeting; and (3) the Aaronic Priesthood quorum meeting.

The instruction in the spring 2007 workshops used video segments showing how leaders in a particular ward used these three meetings effectively. The workshops also used two other video segments—one focusing on ministering and the other showing an interview with a local bishop and a Young Men leader. Local leaders can use and adapt these video segments and the doctrines and principles taught in them to meet their specific needs.

For detail on each of the five major topics covered in the workshops, visit the five pages linked to under Learn More below. Each page contains a video link on that topic, along with an introduction to the video and questions to consider after watching the video. The videos are downloadable, so you can use them in training or meeting in council with adult or youth leaders.

Ideas for using the videos

Therefore, what?

As you use these materials, continually ask yourself: Therefore, what? In other words, as a result of what you have seen, heard, and felt, how will you help your young quorum leaders take action? Keep in mind this principle: Good leaders recognize that young men rise to the level of what they do and apply in their lives, not what they know. In other words, these videos alone will not be of much use unless the young men put the doctrines and principles into action.
