Built in 1956 using funds donated by women of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and matched by the Church, this building is world headquarters for three auxiliary organizations of the Church: Primary (for children), Young Women (12-17 years), and Relief Society (for adult women). A resource center on the lower level, which is open to the public, has helpful ideas and displays designed to strengthen home and family.
The Relief Society is the oldest women's organization in the world. Founded in 1842 by the Prophet Joseph Smith, the Relief Society serves under the guidance of the priesthood as the Lord's organization for women in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The purpose of Relief Society is to carry out the mission of the Church by helping women and families come unto Christ, and the Relief Society motto is "Charity Never Faileth" (1 Corinthians 13:8).
