Discover the hospitality and charm of Kirtland while visiting the Historic Whitney Home.
When the Prophet Joseph Smith and his wife, Emma, arrived in Kirtland in February 1831, they were welcomed with open arms into the home of Newel K, and Elizabeth Ann Whitney and their five children. While living in the Whitney home, Joseph received many revelations and administered Church affairs. It was here that Edward Partridge was called as the first bishop of the Church.
Today the Newel K. and Elizabeth Ann Whitney Home has been restored to look much as it would have during the time when Joseph Smith lived there. Visitors have the opportunity to experience the decor and lifestyle of the 1830s, as well as learn of the events that transpired here in relation to the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
