Gain a wealth of information about the Kirtland area by visiting the John Johnson Inn. The Johnson Inn was reconstructed on its original site and serves as a reminder of the rich heritage established in Kirtland.
Operated by John Johnson in 1833, the Inn has served as a church office building, printing office, community hall, and museum. This was the first brick building in Kirtland and was built by Peter French in the mid 1820s. The Church purchased the Inn from him in 1833.
Today, the John Johnson Inn serves as a modern resource center. Visitors can learn about the events that occurred in and around Kirtland in the 1830s, including the building of the Kirtland Temple, the calling of missionaries to the work, a focus on education, and the beginning of a program to care for those in need. Displays, interactive exhibits, and video presentations help guests become more familiar with Kirtland's rich history and lasting legacy.
