“I find that [the new curriculum] pertains to my life and there are more examples from everyone in the class. It’s a lot more involved, and I get more out of it.” —Megan McCann, a Laurel from the West Jordan Utah Bingham Creek Stake

Megan McCann, 16, of Fox Pointe Ward, West Jordan Utah Bingham Creek Stake, who has been studying the scriptures with the new youth curriculum as part of a pilot program for several months, said she now pays more attention to her Sunday instruction.

“I find that it pertains to my life and there are more examples from everyone in the class,” she said. “It’s a lot more involved, and I get more out of it.”

She has noticed that the other youth in her classes are more willing to share examples from their own lives. As a result, she has gotten to know them better.

“I didn’t realize how many other youth in my class were sharing similar experiences,” she said. “At the end of class we get a weekly challenge. I find myself thinking about the challenge throughout the week instead of just on Sunday.”

She hopes youth starting the curriculum will “go into it with an open mind.”

“Try hard to participate and let the teacher help you learn about the topic,” she said.

Other youth have also learned much from the new curriculum:

  • “The new youth program is wonderful! It’s different because it’s not out of a book where you hear the same stories and lessons over and over again. The teachers plan lessons based on our input.” —Jackson Porter, 15
  • “I feel more in tune with the Spirit. You have to get involved and let the lessons help you. The whole atmosphere is different. It’s much more fun than the old youth program!” —Mitchell Atencio, 16
  • “The lessons are more relevant and modern. The questions make me think more, and I feel the Spirit. My testimony has been strengthened.” —Lauren Marlar, 13
