Volume 19, Number 12

On the cover: “There are so many lessons to be learned from the sacred account of Christ’s birth,” says Elder Jeffrey R. Holland in “Christmas Doesn’t Come from a Store” (page 12). Many of those lessons are shared in this issue—from President Thomas S. Monson’s “Christmas Gifts, Christmas Blessings” (page 2) to a children’s presentation of “The Birth of Jesus” (page 32). These and other articles testify of the reality of the birth of the Savior. (Cover photography by Steve Bunderson; posed by models.)

Inside back cover: Simeon Reverencing the Christ Child, by Greg Olsen. Simeon, who was told by the Holy Ghost that he would not die before seeing “the Lord’s Christ,” was in the temple when Mary and Joseph came with the baby Jesus. Simeon took the baby in his arms, blessed God, and said, “Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, … For mine eyes have seen thy salvation” (see Luke 2:25–30).
