Volume 21, Number 8

On the cover: Active young Latter-day Saints like Jarom LaPierre, 18, are creating a spiritual heritage in Quebec, Canada, where traditional history is a part of daily living. See “I Remember,” page 40. (Photography by Richard M. Romney.)

Inside back cover: Forging Onward, Ever Onward, by Glen S. Hopkinson. Forced from their homes in Nauvoo, Illinois, the first contingent of Latter-day Saints crossed the Missouri River in February 1846 and made camp by Sugar Creek in southeast Iowa. From there, beset by snow and freezing temperatures, they began the 2,000-kilometer trek westward under the watchful gaze of Church authorities. Painting courtesy of Lennon and Suzanne Ledbetter.
