Family Home Evening Ideas

This issue contains articles and activities that could be used for family home evening. The following are two ideas.

“How to Choose Good Friends,” page 53: Cut out from magazines several pictures of young men and young women and make up a short profile for each picture. For example, you could hold up a picture of a young man and say, “This is Aaron. He isn’t a member of the Church, but he goes to synagogue regularly with his family. He likes to play sports and uses clean langauge.” Create one profile like this for each picture. Ask your children which of these people would be good friends. Read with them James 2:23 and discuss ways we can become friends with Heavenly Father.

“Jesus Christ Is Our Savior,” page 74: Easter is coming! You may want to do something special this season to recognize blessings from Jesus Christ. Each day at dinner, each family member could take a turn to share blessings he or she received that day. You could remember these blessings by collecting marbles in a jar—one marble for every blessing. You may want to introduce this idea during family home evening by reading a scripture about the life of Jesus Christ; then ask your children to draw a picture of what happens in the scripture. Sing “I’m Trying to Be Like Jesus” (Children’s Songbook, 78) or another song about the Savior.
