What Is Tumblr?

Tumblr is a microblogging platform allowing users to easily share content with others. Users are able to engage with others by “liking,” “re-blogging,” or commenting on posts.
Overview of Tumblr
Founded in 2007, Tumblr hosts over 200 million blogs and over 90 billion posts. Tumblr allows users to share videos, audio clips, and photos, along with quotes and written posts.
Tumblr is easy to join. Simply provide an email address and create a username and password, and you’re ready to start sharing.
Once you’ve created an account and logged in, you come to your dashboard, which is similar to a news feed. From the dashboard, you can view posts from Tumblr blogs you follow, and you can also create and manage posts for your own blog.
When creating a post, you can add “tags,” or keywords, to make your content more searchable. Using tags helps others find specific content and makes sharing and connecting with others on Tumblr easier.
You can interact with others on Tumblr by following their blogs, commenting on or “liking” posts, or “re-blogging” their content to your own blog. “Liking” and “re-blogging” create what are called “notes” on Tumblr. “Notes” show up on your posts and represent feedback from other Tumblr users on your content.
Tumblr allows users to customize their blogs by choosing from a variety of templates to personalize the look and feel of their blogs.
The Church and Tumblr
The Church uses Tumblr to share multimedia content with followers. While many members already use Tumblr to share gospel-related media, the official Church blogs allow users to more easily find a variety of gospel content in one place. Tumblr provides a convenient way for users to share, or “re-blog,” uplifting multimedia from the Church accounts for their followers to view.
