Focus on becoming like the Savior rather than simply accomplishing tasks.

In times of difficulty, accomplishing even small tasks can feel overwhelming. In these moments, we can focus on what we are becoming, not just the tasks we are completing. Jesus Christ taught: “Therefore, what manner of men ought ye to be? Verily I say unto you, even as I am” (3 Nephi 27:27). When we are struggling with mental health challenges, it may be difficult to do everything we want to do, but we can remember that we are becoming more like the Savior as we strive to improve each day. It is important to remember that our journey of discipleship is a process and that our growth occurs over a lifetime.

It is also important to remember that there are no set timelines for healing and becoming. Patience and diligence are both important aspects of this process. President Dallin H. Oaks explained: “The gospel of Jesus Christ is the plan by which we can become what children of God are supposed to become. This spotless and perfected state will result from a steady succession of covenants, ordinances, and actions, an accumulation of right choices, and from continuing repentance” (“The Challenge to Become,” Ensign, Nov. 2000, 33).
