Service can be planned or spontaneous.

Here’s a story about each.

Did you do anything for Global Youth Service Day this past weekend? The good news is that you don’t need a special holiday to help others!

Here are a couple more awesome service stories of teens who are making the world a better place.

Notice how some service appears as an unexpected opportunity (like Joshua’s story). Other service projects take lots of effort and planning (like Abby’s story). We can represent the Savior in large and small ways!

Joshua

Gospel Young Men in the Ivory Coast App

One day when I had to take my bus to school, I saw a blind man walking nearby who needed help. My bus was already at my stop. I said, “Lord, please, I have to go to school, but you told us to do service. Make sure I can catch my bus.”

I helped the man. Then I saw the bus starting to leave! Normally, when the bus starts to leave the stop, it does not stop. I started running and shouted to the bus driver, “Wait!” He looked at me and stopped the bus then said: “You’re lucky kid. Normally I don’t stop here.” When I heard this, I knew it was the answer to the prayer I had prayed earlier.

I live far from school and if I had missed this bus it would have been very complicated. It was really important to me that God answered my prayer.

Youth: Abby

Recently, we had an interfaith service activity with youth from my stake and the Islamic Society of Milwaukee to clean up part of the city. Then we got together again to eat lunch and play ultimate frisbee, kickball, and tag. My friends and I went and sat with a bunch of new people to get to know them. It was really fun to make new connections over games and service.

It was cool playing ultimate frisbee and feeling like we were all on the same team. Sometimes we focus on our differences, but we’re more similar than we think. Everyone is a child of God and deserves to feel loved and accepted.
