Getting Started

From the Young Men General Presidency

Young Men General Presidency

Dear Priests Quorum Secretary,

Welcome to your new calling! We know that Heavenly Father has called you to this work. He loves you and your quorum members.

As you strive diligently to fulfill your sacred calling, remember the primary purposes of priesthood quorums are to serve others, build unity and brotherhood, and instruct members in doctrines, principles, and duties. President Russell M. Nelson has lifted our vision to a higher and holier way to serve, and he has called on you and your quorum members to be active participants in the work. This time in the priests quorum is a time for you to:

  • Seek personal revelation and respond to the promptings of the Holy Ghost as you support the priests quorum presidency in leading the quorum.

  • Minister with love to all the members of your quorum.

  • With the support of the bishopric and your adviser, help the quorum presidency plan presidency and quorum meetings and activities that will bless your quorum and others.

You cannot fail with Heavenly Father on your side. We are grateful for your willingness to serve.

The Young Men General Presidency

Where to Start

Before You Are Sustained

  • Pray to truly love each member of your quorum as Christ would love them.

After You Are Sustained and Set Apart

  • Remember that being a kind and loving son and brother at home is your first priority.

  • Continue to pray for guidance about your service.

  • Get to know the members of your quorum. (See “Know and Minister to Each Young Man in Your Quorum” under “What Should I Focus On?”)

  • With the quorum presidency, meet with the bishop, who is the priests quorum president, and your quorum adviser to receive instruction on how to lead your quorum. They may use the Aaronic Priesthood Quorum and Young Women Class Presidency Orientation to guide their instruction. During each presidency meeting and at other times, they will provide leadership instruction to help you (see “Quorum and Class Presidency Resources”).

  • Counsel with the bishop about your responsibilities and how he would like you to support him.

  • Assist the bishop in preparing agendas for presidency meetings. In these meetings, take notes and keep track of assignments. (See “Participate in Presidency Meetings” under “What Should I Focus On?”)

  • Record attendance at Sunday quorum meetings. Turn in attendance records to the ward clerk or your Aaronic Priesthood quorum adviser or specialist. (See “Ensure That Accurate Records Are Kept” under “What Should I Focus On?”)
